What Color is Waterloo?

Using blue paint in your home can be a tricky dance – it’s either too bold, too dim, or just doesn’t match your decor. But guess what? We’ve got a shade that will change the game: Sherwin-Williams Waterloo (SW 9141). This medium-toned gray-blue gem will completley change your perception of blue paint. Its calm and sophisticated vibe brings a muted and soothing presence, making it a total chameleon that can work its magic anywhere in (or on) your house.

LRV: A colors light reflectance value (LRV) measures the percentage of light a paint color reflects when put on your walls, cabinets, siding, etc. LRV is measured on a scale that ranges from zero (absolute black) to 100 (pure white). A paint color’s LRV is commonly looked over, but by understanding it, you can simplify your selection process and find the best color for your space!

Waterloo has a LRV rate of 13, meaning it is rather dark in tone and does not reflect much light. This making it perfect for an accent color in your home.

Where to use Waterloo

Living Room:

Absolutley! Waterloo works wonders in any living space. Tone down a brighter room by painting all of the walls Waterloo (photo below) or add a cozy touch in a smaller space by choosing just one wall. You can also enhance your living room with a Waterloo board & batten wall or even update your fireplace brick or mantle! The options are limitless with this gorgeous, versatile color.

For added style, incorporate accents of rattan, wicker, whites, and mustard hues to complement Waterloo in your living space.

Bedroom:

Waterloo introduces a bold and moody atmosphere to the bedroom, setting the stage for a sleepy and cozy mood. Achieve the perfect balance between dark and light by painting the walls in Waterloo and keeping the trim and ceiling in a crisp white. Its versatile nature caters to both feminine and masculine aesthetics, resulting in an inviting and stylish bedroom.

Consider using Waterloo as an accent behind your bed’s headboard, whether it’s a painted wall or adorned with a creative trim touch like shiplap or a grid design. To enhance the coziness, incorporate natural materials and textures, pairing Waterloo with whites, off-whites, and elements like rattan and wicker. The end result is a dreamy bedroom that exudes both comfort and style.

Kitchen:

Sherwin-Williams Waterloo makes a strong statement in farmhouse, modern, or transitional kitchen styles, adding a touch of sophistication to the heart of your home. As shown in one of our recent cabinet painting projets below, we highly recommend using this shade in a two-tone kitchen, pairing with Sherwin-Williams Alabaster. You could also do a different style of a two-tone kitchen by paiting the uppers white, and the lowers waterloo.

To create a harmonious look, pair Waterloo with white quartz countertops and a backsplash in either white, cream, or gray. Elevate the style with black or brushed nickel hardware.

Exterior:

Extend the allure of Waterloo beyond the interior and make a statement with your exterior. Embrace this sophisticated gray-blue hue to paint your home’s siding, giving it a timeless and elegant curb appeal. Waterloo’s versatile charm seamlessly adapts to various architectural styles, be it modern, traditional, or anything in between.

For a bold touch, consider using Waterloo on the front door. It adds a welcoming and stylish note that stands out against the backdrop of the exterior. Whether you’re aiming for a modern facade or a classic look, Waterloo brings a sense of tranquility to your outdoor space.

Pair Waterloo with crisp white trim to create a clean and refined finish. This combination adds depth and visual interest, making your home a standout in the neighborhood. It’s a versatile choice that allows you to express your unique style while enjoying the timeless elegance of Waterloo on the exterior of your home.
