A freshly painted wall can make your space feel new and inviting. But to keep that vibrant, polished look, regular maintenance and cleaning are essential. Proper care ensures your painted walls stay beautiful and durable for years to come. In this blog, we’ll share tips on how to clean painted walls to keep them looking fresh and help preserve the quality of your paint job.
1. Know Your Paint Finish
2. Dust and Sweep
3. Spot Clean Stains Immediately
4. Wash with Care
If your walls require more thorough cleaning, be sure to follow these steps to protect the paint:
-
- Use a Mild Cleaning Solution: Mix a small amount of dish soap with warm water. This solution is safe for most painted surfaces and will clean effectively without harming the paint.
- Test First: Before you wash the entire wall, test the cleaning solution in a small, inconspicuous spot to ensure it doesn’t cause any discoloration or damage.
- Use a Soft Cloth or Sponge: Dip your cloth or sponge in the cleaning solution, then wring it out so it’s damp—not soaking wet. Too much water can seep into the edges of the paint and cause damage.
- Work in Sections: Wash your walls in small sections, gently wiping with the grain of the paint’s finish, then dry each section with a soft towel to prevent water marks.
5. Protect High-Traffic Areas
Certain areas of your home, such as hallways, kitchens, and bathrooms, are more likely to face wear and tear. To prolong the life of the paint in these high-traffic zones:
- Use Washable Paint: If you’re repainting, consider opting for a more durable, washable paint, especially in kitchens and bathrooms.
- Consider Wall Protectors: In areas prone to scuffs and marks (like behind furniture or near doors), using wall protectors or placing furniture away from high-contact areas can help prevent damage.
It’s Easy!
